This info may be helpful if your WinXP could not detect firewire card.
I bought a snazio firewire card and installed in my computer,
apparently the devise manager didn't recognize it and no indication of
any IEEE 1394 on the drop down list.
After many unsuccessful attempts to make my WinXP detect the newly
installed firewire card I decided to relocate the firewire card to
another PCI slot and after reboot it works perfectly.
Now I have my Panasonic GS50 camcoder successfuly connected to my
computer and the Ulead movie editing application able to capture the
video from it without any single frame drops.
You may give a try if you had the same problem
