Win XP encrypted files not accessible after a re-install

I had around 1,600 files and a few folders encrypted for
one user (me), and did not export my encryption key.

I was able to set ownership of the files back to me, but
yet i still can't access them, copy them, move em or back
them up.

I was able to find an encryption/decryption software that
seems to have found my encryption key (i did not format
the drive, just deleted everything but the win folder and
re-installed).

Now question is, is there any way i can use that to gain
access to my files again, and if so, how ?

Been trying to get this back for a while now, it is
getting highly annoying to have 1,600 files i can't
access...

Any help would be welcome.

Did you change your password? If so, change it back to
what it was and give it a try.

Greetings --

If the your encryption certificates and keys were not backed up
before the reinstallation, and the workstation isn't part of a domain,
those files are gone, for all practical purposes. Encryption works
well and there is no "back door" or hack to access the files.
(Wouldn't be much point to EFS if it were vulnerable.)
