How does one go about deactivating Windows XP Professional
in order to load another OS on their system, and still
have the ability to reload XP back on theur system and
activate it again. Does MS put a limit on the number of
time you can do this?

Thanks and Cheers,

Hi, RDU1961.

I don't believe there is a provision to deactivate. However, if you
re-install WinXP later onto the same computer, re-activation should be
automatic over the Internet. You can install WinXP as many times as you
like on the same computer. Many of us dual-boot, with two or more copies of
WinXP installed on the same computer. No problem.

You may move the OS to another machine.
You will then be required to activate.
the activation over the Internet may succeed, if not then you will need to
activate via telephone.
This is usually toll free and takes about 4 minutes. The fact you have
moved the OS from one machine to another will not be a problem.

Unless, of course, it is an OEM version of Windows XP, in which case
moving it to another machine is not permitted under the EULA.

No - you can activate on the same hardware (or 'substantially the same')
as many times as you like. There is no 'deactivation, you would just
install again. Read up though at www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm and
