Win XP CD setup, after original XP un-installed?

BACK GROUND:
My system came with Windows Xp (Pro I believe) already installed. I began
having problems some months ago. Like most new systems these days it came
without a Windows CD, and I shutter at the thought of talking to some tech
support geek who casually recommends a system recovery every time they can't
solve an issue, wiping out many long weeks, perhaps months of setting up the
system. It also means losing some things that can never be recovered. To
prevent that emergency from ever happening I went out and bought the Windows
XP Pro CD. I could simply reinstall Wndows on my own if things ever got bad,
and I wouldn't have to run the recovery pgm to do it!
PROBLEM:
A few days ago I the "emergency" I prepared for arose. I whipped out my CD
and simply did a Windows re-install with it. Having done so, some other
problems came up. One specifically that kept giving me a "UPS" error. I
can't turn on the service and when I persist I keep getting a message saying
that "the Windows version I'm running is not validated!" A few additional
glitches also end up with the same ending. Windows takes a long time to
start up and I get a message saying that I am set to something other than
the rapid install. Each time I switch back to "the rapid install" somehow it
automically switches off again on its own. It seems I don't have the
permission without being able to validate the Windows version I am
running.and the validation is not working.
ADDITIONAL:
Windows is looking for the original product registration code, which of
course has changed with the new Windows version I've installed.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
I''ve just backed up my entire system to an external hard drive, and thought
Id completly un-install Windows XP, then install the CD fresh, assuming once
it is the only Windows installation, it would then become the original
product code!
QUESTION:
Does someone out there know if this will succeed or have I just bought the
CD for nothing. If I won't have the authority to fix problems it does me no
good at all. Also since I have a fresh backup I could actually now use the
recovery program without losing any data and I know that would work! Can
someone tell me with any certainty that the CD version will do the job
successfully? Please send an email answer to me at (e-mail address removed) in
addition to posting in case I don't get back here for a while. I appreciate
any help that you can provide.
Sincerely

Neil Sheppard
