WinXP-PRO on intel D845PEBT2 MB, Pentium 4 w/HT, 1GB Mem,
2-100GB HD configured RAID - Stripe
All "Critical" updates were installed -- NO VIRUS
There were 4 "recommended" updates to be installed.
Computer was working perfect. Installed "recommended"
updates and when computer rebooted I got this
message: "Windows could not start because the following
file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll, Please re-
install a copy of the above file."
I tried all of the KB fixes, but there seems to be NO
ACCESS to the drives -- hence, unable to even re-install
XP.
If I could get access to the hard drives I could probably
fix it, but even the BIOS doesn't see the HD's.
I have NO BACKUP and am desparate to fix this thing
without loosing my data. The software I can reinstall if
I HAVE to.
The RAID Array seems to add one more level of complexity
to the mix. <SIGH>
I tried to access MS Support. but it requires the Product
Number. Now if I could get at the product nember I could
probably fix the computer.
