Hello,

I know that this is not an XP question, but I have to put
it somewhere. I had the opportunity to get a free copy
of Win Server 2003 standard and enterprise (yes, they're
legal) and I am thinking of using it to set up one of my
desktops at home as a file and print server. I had hoped
to avoid having to spend a lot of money doing this, but
when I tried to install my Norton Anti-virus Pro 2004 I
received an error message saying that it wouldn't run on
a server OS and that I would need to upgrade. Corporate
and Enterprise level versions run a minimum of about
$700. Does anyone know of a cheaper solution?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

If you intend to run Windows Server 2003 then you will need to be running
Anti Virus Software that is compatible with Windows Server 2003. In many
cases since you are using a server OS you may find that certain desktop AV
products are not suitable or will not install.
One desktop product that does appear to be installable and work is CA eTrust
Antivirus 6.0.100. I have it running on my own home Windows Server 2003
systems that are also running as File and Print, Exchange 2003, ISA 2000 and
SQL Server 2000 all with no issues to date.
