My computer (O/S Win Xp Home Edition) threw up a window marked "WinRAR
self extracting archive.

The comment in this window was:

"The Archive is either in unknown format or damaged"

The Destination folder given in the window was :

"C:\Document Settings\username"

The window also had an active installation button, but the window
disappeared when this was pressed!

Can anyone tell me what WinRAR is and what would be the result of the
reported corruption, because having ignored this, the computer seems to
work OK?

Thanks in anticipation.

This is another form of compression file like Winzip. You will need to get a
copy to open the file.

WinRAR is a Russain file archive format. You can download unarchiver's
