What is the win.ini in the msconfig utility and where can I learn more about
it?

win.ini is a configuration settings file that was used extensively by
older versions of Windows.

The vast majority of what used to be included in the win.ini file is
now contained in the registry.

Windows XP retains the win.ini file for backwards compatibility with
older applications. It will be located in your c:\windows folder.

Win.ini might still be used though if you have some very old 16 bit apps or
drivers. As previously said its a product from earlier versions of Windows
that didn't use a registry.
