Win Explorer not responding

If I open Explorer & copy a file from Windows XP Home C
drive to a re-writable cd all is fine and the file copies
OK.
However when I try to close explorer, it wont. I have to
use CTL Alt Del and end the task in the Windows Task
Manager which it does and Explorer will open OK thereafter.
It's not a showstopper, just a pain. Could a change to the
registry be a solution?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

did you check for viruses already ?

Thanks the reply. That sounds ominous!! But yes I have
anti virus software and check frequently. I have none as
far as I know.
