I'm running IE6/SP1 with Windows 2000 Pro.

When I try to download from any site (including MS
updates) the File download box never gives me the option
to open from site or save. If I right click on the URL and
click "save as" it starts downloading immediately. The
save to, progress bar and time remaining functions are
greyed out. after a few minutes I get the error message
that IE cannot download file xx from location xx, etc.

none of the recommended solutions seem applicable or work.
I believe I am not the only one with this problem.

Hi Rosetta - You need to check this and/or set it for those not checked for
each file type that you download:

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question, e.g. for .zip
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File, for this example)
Click on Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version, and check the
"Confirm open after download" box.

I forgot to mention. I am using Juno Ver 5.0 and a dialup
modem. I had no problem getting the service packs, so I
don 't know if the problem is with the Juno software,
which uses its own shell, or at the Microsoft end.

The Juno help service is virtually useless. I'm almost
ready to switch to AOL, it's that bad.
