When starting up my computer, which has windows 2000 pro,
immediately after the "starting up" progress bar is
complete, I get the message that my disk needs to be
checked for consistency. A program runs which checks the
disk, and says no problems were found. The computer will
then attempt to start up again, and this process repeats,
over and over. When I tried to use a bootdisk to see if it
would help, I got the message "Windows 2000 could not
start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows 2000 root> system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file." Any
suggestions on how to do this or other approaches to use?
Thank you.

Hit the enter key when you get the disk consistency check message. The OS
should then bypass it. For the floppy to successfully boot Windows 2000 the
disk must contain the "NT" boot sector. Format a diskette (on a Windows 2000
machine, not a DOS/Win9x, so the NT boot sector gets written to the floppy),
then copy ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini to it; and possibly
ntbootdd.sys. Edit the boot.ini to give it a correct ARC path for the
machine you wish to boot and fix it after the OS starts.

Hello
Perform a scan of your disks using *chkdsk* on each drive and see if it
helps.
