Will not open

I cannot open a excel file unless I am in the 97 excel
program itself. I cannot just click on the file and have
it open in excel Plwase help.

Reassoociate xls files to open with excel.This can be done from Windowa
explorer.If you don't know the procedure to do that you can simply
reinstall Excel over itself.

Sometimes one of these works:

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

(and I think I'd use the /unregserver & /regserver technique before playing with
the registry directly or via windows explorer--it just seems safer to me.)
