My problem sounds like the "locked up with possible virus"
query so its not just me.
Started with a unexpected reboot while using the computer,
system automatically ran chkdsk, chkdsk did something with
security ids on all files. Now no matter what mode I try
to boot from (safe, last good known, normal, console) it
will stop and reboot. I get to the option screen that
tells me there was an error while loading. I get a
loading window screen then reboot. I have tried booting
from the xp cd(I set bios to do this), same results(system
does access the cd). I cannot get to the xp cd setup
screen to run the repair stuff. In some modes I get a
blue screen but it disappears within a second so I have no
idea what info it shows. Unfortunately I do not have a
boot floppy.
I had a very similiar problem 6 months ago and ended up
replacing the hard drive. Replaced a western digital with
a western digital.
Any suggestions on trouble shooting this problem?
