I'm looking to buy the XP upgrade package.....

Will I get a "clean" install or will I have to go thru the bullshit I did
when I upgraded to ME ?

It left reminants of 98 and the performance sucked.

I'm hoping that the XP upgrade disk will give me a clean install and will
run efficiently ??????

Any advice out there ?

I'm sorry to say that experience contradicts what Kevins reply says. No you absolutely cannot guarantee a clean install with upgrade. You may in fact get some registry integration and that is not a good thing. The only real solution to a proper install is to completely format the drive ensuring that no gremlins remain from previous Operating Systems. Only with a format can you ensure that what you get is a complete clean install of XP. I run into people every day who have upgraded from ME to XP and regret it. My father being one of them. Good luck.

Which you can do with an Upgrade package - you have the option to wipe it
all and start fresh, or upgrade on top of what you currently have.

"Can" being the operative word in Kevin's reply.

an upgrade version can do a clean install, just wipe the partitions and
then create new one(s) - DO NOT KEEP the old partitions, they may not
align correctly for XP to use them effieciently w/ NTFS.

Also, your system will need to have the ability to boot from the XP CD
for this this work.

Also, make sure you have a "qualifying upgrade media" handy. Some OEM
"system restore" CDs _ARE_NOT_ qualifying, so make sure first. If it has
a folder named "386" then it should qualify. A old win95 CD does qualify,
and lots of people have one of them lying around, ask friends.

Roger that...

Given my previous experience with MS OS upgrades, I opt for the full format.
