For some reason I can no longer open mulitple files in explorer - be it word,
excel, Acad - any program.

Usually I select a buch of files by holding down control or shift, right
click and choose "open"

Now when I try, the mouse flickers as if they are all opening in the
background but alas, nothing happens, not one file opens.

Does anyone have any ideas???

Thanks

Ignore Mac - he's a troll.

Did the problem occur after the most recent Windows Updates? See:

security update MS06-015

I believe HP and Nvidia have updated drivers to address the problems
with their software. Check on their sites.

Thanks for the info Malke.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the problem as I don't have any HP
software installed and Verclsid.exe wasn't in my processes list.

I have a feeling this problem initially started trying to open multiple
Adobe pdf files from the explorer using Adobe 7. I believe at the time
multiple office files could still open.

Strange indeed. Any other ideas?

Did you do the fix? If not, I would do so. It can't hurt and you may be
surprised. We are seeing all sorts of weird shell behavior because of
this update - and on computers without HP software. Some machines with
Nvidia hardware have experienced problems, and other software/hardware
combinations.

Hi Malke,

Did the fix (used kellys korner than checked it against Microsofts
instructions to change the registry manually).

Unfotunately still no change - for some reason it took my computer a few
attempts to reboot. Kept going to the black screen with the option to reboot
in safe mode etc and it was running really slow (the timer count down before
starting windows normally was taking for ever to count down).

I have a toshiba Laptop so i checked all the drivers were up to date which
they were.

So I'm still at a loss.

Thanks,

Damian

Malke,

Just an update.

I removed the fix (as I was worried about re-booting problems).
I then went thru and removed some recently installed programs and found a
program called linespeedmeter to be the culprit.

After removing this program, its working again!

Not sure if this was the reason but I've seen weired things in my time.

Thanks for your help.

I've checked each of the descriptions of supposed causes for this,
all of them turn up negative. But I'm having the wierdest problems
with the browser and the shell. Some web pages won't open until I
click on the link more than once, others work just fine. Some file
downloads, pdf and other sorts of things, act like they are corrupted
when they are opened.
