I am experiencing a very odd issue with a brand new Vista machine in my
office.

we have a site admin page like this: http://admin.XXXXX.com - where the
XXXXX is the domain. This page is only available from within out network or
with a VPN. Now this works just fine on every computer.

However, on this new vista ultimate machine I am unable access. The browser
searches and searches but nothing happens.

I am able to ping every machine in the office from the new vista except for
one, the server where the admin page is located.

What do you think could be causing this?

My instinct would be to blame DNS, or at least to look to DNS for the
solution.
If you don't have access to DNS, try the Hosts file as a temporary work
around.

Guy.

The weird thing is that from the vista machine, I am unable to ping the
server IP address.

From the Vista machine I can ping every computer on the network, except for
the server - x.x.x.4 - and the admin page is on the .4 server.

This particular issue is perplexing and beyond comprehension.

I've turned off the vista security, firewall and open everything on it.
Nothing. I can access the network work and map printers just fine. Not a
issue. But pinging the server is impossible.

I checked on the server and it is not blocking the vista. No other computer
in the office is having this issue. Even the other vista machine, which is
on a VPN.

Could it be something with the units IP resolution? Hardware?

Any other ideas?

Are you able to ping the server by using its IP addresss rather than its DNS
name? If so, then this looks like you need to check the DNS server settings
of your Vista machine.

Cheers
