anyone know how to set up widescreen mode (1280x720) in windows XP?

Your display resolution is based on your video card capabilities, and your
monitor.

If the video card and monitor support it, then choose it from the
Display Properties | Settings dialog box. Right click a blank area of
the desktop | Properties | Settings.

Right-click on the desktop > Properties > click on the settings tab at
the top right of the box.
You will get a slide bar. This slide bar is what you use to change the
resolution, the options you have will depend on your graphics card and
monitor.

Look at your graphics card options and set it as any other resolution. If it
isn't there it is either not supported or you need a driver update.

Right-click on the desktop and choose Properties. You can change the
resolution there, but only to a setting supported by your video card and
monitor. You may or may not have a 1280x720 choice there.
