WIA (Windows Image Acquision) & Scanner Problem at Boot Up

I recently installled a HP All-Iin-One and now when I boot, it takes
over 5 minutes before I can open Explorer or My Computer. Only after I
finally see the HP icon appear in the Notification area in the Task
Bar can I access any Windows Explorer Windows.

Event Viewer says at every boot up that Windows Image Acquistion (WIA)
has hung. If I have the HP All-Iin-One disconnected from the computer
at boot-up everything loads normally.

That can't be normal, but I can't find any info about this on the web.

Any info about this problem would be appreciated

Is WIA set for "automatic"? Take a look, under
START|ALL|ADMINISTRATIVE|SERVICES

Click the WIA item, then click the arrow to the right of the Startup box.
Choose AUTOMATIC, and click on OK to exit

It was Automatic. Setting it to Manual has cut the delay time
considerably. I would have expected the opposite. OF course n othing
on HP site about this problem
