took the Firewire cable, plugged it in and turned it on; and Windows PnP
hardware detection would come up sayig that it was installed and ready
to use.
Recently I updated to Windows SP2, and now, using the exact same
hardware, cable, and camera, Windows will not auto detect it and a
serach for new hardware turns up nothing.
I tried this camera on another SP2 machine and it does not recongize it
there. I have also tried it on another SP1a machine, which does
recognize it.
I hope there's and easy solution...

WinXP SP2 is a very different fix, and certain software needs to be updated
before it will work properly. I recommend installing the proper drivers or
software for the device, if you can get them from the camera maker. If
not, sorry. However, in my opinion, SP2 is well worth it due to the
security fixes.
