why XP wont get pics of CD

since restoring my PC I cant get it to find any pics on
my CD (even though I know they're there) Friends PC (win
98) can get them, but my pc shows an empty disc. Won't
show them on DVD either, where it used to before. All
pics were created on the pc and it worked prior to
restore. Somone sugessted a virus on the disc? has anyone
heard of this or a similar problem? I'm at my wits end.
