why xp keep rebooting

I was working on the pc (not connected to internet at this instance) using xp
and I shut down the normal way. I then reboot it and now the xp logo will
appear with the led light moving left to right a few cycles and the pc will
reboot. The cpu fan is working. Any idea why it suddenely behaviou this way?

Was trying to do a Recovery Console (cd did not have the 'R' function) and
end up having a dual boot. Now if the original system32.dll is corrupted as
according to the kb, how can I tectify the situation apart fom using the 2nd
installation in which case I need to ;oad all my other programes, TIA

I 'slaved' the hdd and scanNED using microtrend online, norton on line n
nav2006, nothing found. The system still keeps re-booting itself. It has
taken more than 7 hours of scanning so that why I have not use other prog to
scan as suggested. I will do the trojan scan when time permits. In the
meantime as you know since I have a dual boOt now, is there anywhere I can
get my original installation going apart from really removing the 'suspected'
infection.TIA
