Why won't my 8cm DVD+RW disk work with Windows XP?

I bought a new Sony handycam that records directly to 8cm DVDs. When I
finalize the DVD, I can play it on my home DVD player, but my XP DVD
drive is not accepting it as a valid DVD format. Says Windows XP
doesn't support this format. Is there a way around this so I can save
home movies to my computer file system?

What software are you using to play the DVD's on your computer? What
does Sony tech support say?
