I want to know how to change file extensions in XP. I have posted this
twice but no one offers any help.

Roy, what exactly are you trying to do. Perhaps if you give more details
about what it is you are trying to and what files you are trying to change,
maybe someone can help you.

In Explorer, find the file you want. Select it. Press F2. Rename it.
Put the extension you want the right of the full stop (.).

To ensure yourself you are doing this, ensure that file extensions are
displayed in the Explorer view. Menu Tools/Folder Options, Tab: View.
Find the option there.

Recommend you buy a basic book about Windows and read it. Also learn to
use Help on your computer.

If you have to ask that question then I have to ask why
are you wanting to change File Extensions anyway ?

Just to add to Rob's advice........

Simply changing a file extension manually does not change the type of file it
is.

i.e. changing myfile.doc to myfile.jpg will not leave you with a *.jpg
formatted file.

Highlight and press F2, or right-click, rename. However, if you rename
the extension, that doesn't mean that you're changing the file, only
what will attempt to open it.

Perhaps you are asking the wrong question. Is it
possible that you want to change the file association
not the extension? In other words, do you want
to change the program that opens the file?

In Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View>Hide extensions for known file types just remove the tick then rename the extension!

BTW it's the same for all operating systems!
