Why MSN Messenger 6.0 no Audio in desktop, but OK in laptop?

I'm using SBC DSL internet connection. I have a
HomePortal 100SW with the wireless internet feature. I
have a Logitech Web Cam. I installed MSN Messenger 6.0 in
my laptop, and I can do audio and vedio conversation
without any problems.
With the new SONY VOID desktop, I notice there was
Windows Messenger 4.7 installed, so I deleted it and
installed the MSN Messenger 6.0. Like lots of posts I
read in this board, I can receive video but I can't do
audio. I've checked that the firewall is unabled. And
when I
use the same web cam that I used in my laptop, there is
no picture captured by Messenger.
I've called the SONY support, they said since the speaker
and the microphone are working, it's not their problem.
I really don't understand why my laptop (Windows XP Pro)
works perfectly with audio and video, but with the same
MSN Messenger 6.0, my desktop (Windows XP Home) can't do
the same thing. Did I miss anything in settings in the
desktop?

Any help is highly appreciated!

Strange. Today the audio part is working. Maybe I turned
off the microphone yesterday? Anyway, I'm happy with it
now.
I'm still having problem with the video part. I can see
my partner's picture, but they can't see mine execpt a
black picture.
