since i re-installed XP Pro SP1, XP Pro is taking aout 5 minutes to open XP
after it boots and get to the 'XP Moving Eye', then it opens XP and works as
expected. it shuts down in a normal time.

all the gear is the same as the previous XP Pro install that worked as
expected.

any ideas?

thanks,

GrievousAngel

i have just finsihed trying ALL of the selective boot options in msconfig to
no improvement.

where i am hanging at for about 5 minutes is the Windows XP loading screen
*the 'moving eye' and NOT the blue XP startup screen.

does this make any sensse to you?

Depending upon your setup, you might try a static IP address.

See Help and Support for details.

I have seen this happen and it hinted the hard disk drive
was about to fail. After replacing the suspect drive,
boot times were back to acceptable.

to be sure everyoine understands where i am delaying, it is the first blue
color Windows screen with the round eye type image that moves from left to
right. after about 5 min. i get to the next blue screen (very quickly) where
windows is opening and then goes to the login screen. once i login, it opens
windows XP Pro very quickly. my delay appears to be where the device
drivers, etc are being opened (at i think that is what is going on).

no serives i found effect this delay i am getting. i turned them ALL OFF
with no fix.

thanks.
