I have run Outlook versions since 1995. I now have Outlook 2002 in MS Office
XP (Standard) + all avalable updates & service packs. Yet it remains the
singularly most unstable program i have ever encountered. It freezes,
crashes, spontaneously closes, misdirects at least 3 times a day and has to
be Repaired twice a week and completely reloaded once a month. WHY? I am
forced to use this dinosaur because 90% of people are locked into it. They
would far rather be with anything else, but have no choice because of
Microsoft Monopoly. Does anyone this side of Alpha Centauri have any tips on
stabilising this boneshaker??

What kind of 3rd party applications do you have installed that
integrate/sync/use/protect Outlook data? (e.g. Adobe Acrobat [Full
Version], WinFax, PDA Sync Software [Activesync, Palm PocketMirror/Conduit],
Antivirus [Symantec, McAfee, Trend, Panda], Stamps.com, Instant Messenging
[ICQ, MSN], etc can all play a roll in Outlook's stability.)

I have to agree with "neo" I have been using Outlook since 1995 also, and I
did have problems but the last 2 or 3 years I have been "virtually" problem
free. Your problem is probably in your configuration(add-on or third party
products that aren't quite up to snuff).
Good Luck, I know how frustrating it can be!

I have raw ms outlook 2003 fresh out of the box and mine is really unstable.
I've reinstalled, detect and repaired, service pack 2 upgrade I've even
installed it on another computer and it still collapses and restarts every
two or three hours usually when I'm in the middle of entering a new
appointment. Any suggestions how to fix it? The rest of the office programs
appear to work fine.

How nice of you to be so specific so we know what to do to fix it.

I see no reason to post "solutions" that are only restatements of the problem.

S/he was about as specific as you were... we need more information before
was can begin to make suggestions on how to fix it. Did you upgrade or
install clean? Did you make a new profile? Use Roaming profiles? What types
of mail accounts are configured? How many? What addins are installed? Are
you using a pst you've had for years?

Agreed. How can you be angry about not getting help if you dont post any
information... Are you using Exchange or a POP3/SMTP/IMAP server? Have you
tried uninstalling and reinstalling? Have you looked in the event logs for
errors?
