to synch outlook over a network?

AND

I tried to expoet my inbox as a .pst file - re imported the file onto
the reformatted drive and found that it hadn't saved / transferred the
inbox sub folders

If I could've synchronised over the network to my desktop - I'd would
have never lost the info.

It's not hard to copy a pst over the network. How did you try and do it?

Sorry - didn't explain that too well. I wanted to synch the files ove
the network, but outlook doesn't facilitate this. I tried Osasync
couldn't get user permissions sorted (I'm the only user of bot
machines and have been from new)

So I tried exporting the files as .pst (inluding the inbox which ha
sub folders). Yet when I did my OS reinstall and imported the inbo
.pst file - the sub folders were missing. Gone

That's fine - you've been lucky. Many people do this with no problems, but
note that you may not be so lucky in the future and may experience data
corruption - just keep an eye on the PST data file size and how many are
open at once.

Note that MS doesn't support using a PST file stored on a
network drive.

Utter nonsense.

it's not utter nonsense. You CAN use a pst over a network, but MS says "if
it goes belly-up it's not our fault".
that is what is meant by "MS doesn't support the use of pst files over a
network"

Utter nonsense.

I owe you an apology and herewith offer it. I found the KB article that
states just what you said. I was ignorant. Sorry.

Backing up PST files is a trivial task I do it every day over my networ
to a remote server.

The only condition is that Outlook MUST be closed at the time of copy.

I use a MUST HAVE program calles SECOND COPY 2000 (free) this wil
automatically (once set up) copy anything; from any sorce; to an
destination; at any time you choose (min 10 mins; max once / year).

Once set up (takes a few minutes) it can be completely forgotten abou
except to check there is still free space on the receipient - it eve
keeps a log of all transfers.

This program will even back-up many "live" documents (but not Outlook
and keep previous revisions to what ever level you choose.

I set mine SC2000 to Back up all the PST files (ie. current, archive1
archive2) I use, at about 3am every day from my various PC's to
remote file server. Been doing this for years absolutely reliable. I
you turn a PC off, it will do it at the next oportunity
