Gotta agree. I've Never needed one either, but if I were to have
one Mepis would be it! Unless, of course Debian does one.

I tried one due to some NTFS corruption that was causing a bluescreen in
the NTFS.SYS file. Unfortunately Linux' NTFS implementations are too
poorly implemented to read the data from the drive.

I ended up using a WinXP based LiveCD and was good to go.

*shrugs*

If this article was titled "Why every power user needs a LiveCD" then we
might be talking, but it could apply to Linux just as easily as Windows.

LiveCDs are great, but there is little reason to waste time learning yet
another OS just to use one.

Only once, years ago, when I somehow managed to botch the partiton
tabel of my Pentium 100. At this time, there were noc live CDs
available, my machine wouldn't even start from one, so i had to resort
to a Linux start disk, that I had.

Using fdisk, I set the partiton type again, which had been lost, and
all files were in their proper place. My, was I happy!

Thanks for that. Personally, I still prefer Mepis.

It can't find anything on this machine at eth0 or wlan0 or any other
internet connection. Oh, well, I tried it just out of curiosity. I
can afford to throw 25 cents away.
