Why does this happen when I attach a hard drive with a Windows installation on it already?

I'm attempting to back up data from a client's hard drive. Basically when I
attempt to delete their temp internet file folder, it says there is no file.
Then, when I open the folder to see the contents, I can see cookies and what
not from my own Windows installation. Why does this happen?

Redirected folder contents based on the desktop.ini file in that
folder.

So by default it is set to just show whatever is in my actual C:\ directory?
Why does this happen? What if the desktop.ini is blank?

The desktop.ini file is most often used to incorporate the contents of
other folders into the listing of the current folder, just as if the
files were actually there.
