Why does parent window disappear when I click on a second link

Whenever I open one window, and then another, the first one disappears. I've
gone to Folder Options, and checked 'open in it's own window', but I still
only get one window at a time. It makes it difficult to follow directions to
do something, so I need to print out all the steps in the first window.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".
