Why does office turn off when I delete a message?

I have Office Outlook 2003 SP1 and all critical updates. When I do anything
with a message, other than read it (for instance, delete it), Outlook shuts
down and the message appears telling me that the program has run into a
problem and needs to close. There is no error number and no recourse but to
click to either send an error report or don't to MS. Has anyone had this
problem and has anyone found a cure for it. Thanks for whatever help you can
give me.

Try both detect and repair and scanpst.exe.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, bgsr asked:

Since I posted the original message, I installed Outlook on my laptop and it
works perfectly. This leads me to believe its a problem with my desktop,
somewhere. Where might I find these two items you said to run...on the disk?

In Outlook, click Help>Detect and Repair for the one and Start>All
Programs>Microsoft Office Tools>Inbox Repair Tool for the other. If you
don't have that item, search for SCANPST.EXE. For an English installation
of Office it should be in
%CommonProgramFiles%\System\MSMAPI\1033

I thank both you and Tilly for taking the time to try to help me.
Unfortunately, neither of the solutions worked. I thought the first one did,
but after deleting a message, it waited about 60 seconds and then shut
Outlook down again. I might also mention that I have re-installed Outlook on
my desktop twice, and that didn't help. Again, thanks for your help.

Can't offer any help but my problem is identical to yours. I keep sending
error logs to Microsoft.
