WHY DOES CLICKING A SECOND CELL SELECT ALL INBETWEEN

IF I SELECT A1 THEN F10 ALL THE CELLS FROM A1 TO A10 TO F1 TO F10 ARE
SELECTED HOW DO I STOP THIS

2. press the F8 key.
