After a word file, doc or rtf, gets passed a certain (unknown) size processor
usage leaps to around 50%.
Using word 2000 with XP home. Any ideas?

Looks like you are getting into using your swap page. This is a Windows
issue. How much RAM do you have, what OS, which version of Word?

If this is the case, try doing regular saves of your document and it may
help.
