Why does adding hardware require XP re-registration????

After having had loads of problems since October, last month, I *finally*
got XP mostly working (still having glitch with Audigy 4 pro card not
initializing but Oh Well, at least my graphics programs are functioning).

Well, at least they were - today, I out-of-the-blue got some BS message
that, because I reinstalled hardware (scanner, pronter, cheapo digital
camera), I have to re-register! IN THREE DAYS!!!

Huuuhhh....?? WHY? What's up with that? And how many *more* times will I
be required to re-register? And will the notification of thise silly
requirement continue to get shorter and shorter?

I going to say this as lately I have problems with activation of XP Pro when
a slave drive added and then I tried to do a clean install of XP. I know MS
is doing what it thinks it has to do to prevent piracy, but geeeeeze it is
wreaking havoc with people that have legal winXP Pro. Even calling
Microsoft has not been satisfactory. I have been going round and round with
them and the problem has NOT been fixed and I don't think it ever will be.

Just think what is going to happen when Vista hits the market LOL.
I know this does not help, but venting sure does feel good.

Registration is entirely optional with Windows XP.

Activation is mandatory and a requirement to reactivate can be
triggered by a change in the computer hardware. However none of the
items you listed (scanner, printer, camera) are included in the list
of hardware components that are monitored by activation so something
else must have triggered the reactivation requirement.

Possibilities include:
1. Deleting the control files for activation (WPA.DBL and WPA.BAK)
2. A BIOS update which resulted in the computer recognizing certain
hardware components differently.
3. Additional hardware changes other than the ones you mentioned.

Also please note that when requesting assistance with a computer
problem it is vitally important that you describe the problem
completely and accurately, especially with regard to including the
full *verbatim* text of the error message(s) that you are getting.

Good luck
