I have Windows XP with Word 2002. I am unable to send email from Word as the
options are greyed out. I have tried to select this as my email program of
choice from Tools/Internet Options/Programs but the option is blank. I used
to be able to do this and now can't - PLEASE help it's driving me mad

In Outlook Express, on the General tab of Tools | Options, make sure that OE
is set as the default mail handler. It should then be selected (or at least
available to be selected) on the Programs tab of Control Panel | Internet
Options.

Hi, Thanks for your points of help - I think I may have a glitch or
something, I have made OE the default mail handler as you suggested and
Applied and Ok'd the change but it won't accept it. When I go back into OE to
check the setting it has gone back to saying this app is not the default mail
handler, As it won't accept this I am still unable to select OE as email on
the Programs tab.

Thanks for helping though

Do you have any other mail client installed that might be set as the
default? If you have Outlook installed (even if you don't use it), open it
and look at the Other tab of Tools | Options, which has a *separate* control
to make Outlook the default mail client.

I was having the same problem the last few days with WORD on my new computer
and I did not have a SEND TO menu item at all in Excel. I read that the SEND
TO menu item gets activated upon installing Outlook. Because I use
GroupWise, I had not installed Outlook. I installed Outlook from my Office
XP CD. Then I used the REPAIR OFFICE option in ADD PROGRAMS (I do not know
if this was necessary.) Using Outlook, SEND TO now worked with WORD and
EXCEL. I then went to IE and changed my default mail client from Outlook to
GroupWise and all is well now. (I could have changed it to Outlook Express.)
I do not know what will happen if i now uninstall Outlook.

Note: I had installed Outlook Express from the XP Pro CD and that had not
fixed the problem. Only installing OUTLOOK fixed the problem.
