Why do I have a permanent Calculate message in the Status Bar?

Hi

Have a Calculate in the Status bar permanently which is causing the workbook
to recalculate the entire workbook with every change made even if not
connected to other cells.

On the menu -- Goto Tools==> Options ==> Calculation (tab)

Click on the "Automatic" Button and click ok

See if this works.

Have tried that, I can set the calculation to manual which temporarily solves
the problem, however I need to write a macro function which utilises
goalseek, when that is activated every itteration takes about 10 seconds
which makes the VB function take over an hour to run, only complicated thing
in the spreadsheet is a pivot table with formulas refering to a named range
which looks at the table.

Any suggestions? Thinking of phoning Microsoft as the MCSE people we know
cant figure it either?

Hi

I'd name it 'bad formula use'. Probably you have a lot of volatile
functions/formulas, which mostly refer to wide range of cells. And for full
joy you use iterations too, do you? :-))). Best advice, I think, will be to
redesign all from scrap.

"Bad Formula Use" lol, I do refer to named ranges which could be determined
wide. However only in the form of a v lookup. It just so happens that there
are nested ifs, lookups and iserrors, however this spreadsheet I am building
is by far less complicated than others, if I could just find what triggers
the calculate in the status bar - which I might add is damn near impossible
to find on help! then I could fix it.

Anyone know a MOS person with Financial spreadsheet building experiance.

I wish he would have put in what fixed it. I have a user with exactly the
same problem! I still don't know what to do to fix it.

Hello Brenda
May be Tools, Options and turn Calculation mode to Automatic in the
Calculation tab?

Sorry Brenda
Don't know what the original post was and since yours shows as a new one..
But anyway try and check for Add-ins checked, uncheck one by one and close
and re-open Excel each time.
Also see files in the xlStart folder including PERSONAL.XLS.
