Why do I get several copies of the same e-mails.

Turn off AV scanning of your mail - it is redundant and harmful.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, LJM asked:

Thanks Milly for the suggestion but I had already tried turning off my virus
protection and the problem continued.

Uninstall and reinstall your AV software but uncheck the option to scan
email - sometimes it is a very stubborn setting.

I have uninstalled my virus protection and then sent several e-mails from a
Yahoo account to my Outlook 2003 e-mail account. The result is I got two
copies of every e-mail I sent to myself. Problem persists even with no virus
protection installed on the computer.
