Is this in Word 2007? If so, there's an interesting way you can peek under
the hood of the file. Office 2007 files are actually ZIP files, so you can
browse through the file to see what's up.
1. Make a copy of the file (copy "MyFile.docx" to "Copy of MyFile.docx").
2. Rename "Copy of MyFile.docx" to "Copy of MyFile.zip". This makes the
file viewable with whatever ZIP utility is installed on your system (like
WinZip).
3. Double-click "Copy of MyFile.zip" to open the file with your ZIP utility.
Depending on what zip file management software is installed on your system,
you should be able to see the info for each of the individual files within
your Word file. The chances are there's one big image in there that is
bloating your document. Once you find it, open your original file
("MyFile.docx") in Word and then remove the image (or whatever it is that's
bloating your file).
Good luck!
