Why can't you read html messages even after deselecting the downl.

I have deselected the download images box under tools, but my html messages
still do not come through and cannot be read. Are there any explainations?

You'll have to tell us more about the messages themselves. Have you used the
View Source command to examine them? This is Outlook 2003?
 
Thank you for your reply. It is Outlook 2003. I have tried to "view source"
and it comes up with information about the e-mail.

By deselecting the download images box, I mean that under Tools, Opions, I
have clicked the "Change Automatic Download Settings" box and deselected the
"Don't Download Pictures of Other Contend Automatically in HTML e-mails" box,
which was recommended in the help section of Microsofts website.

Despite that, anytime I receive an HTML e-mail, the message header comes
through, but the e-mail itself is blank.

Thanks again for any help you might afford. It is truly appreciated.
 
The reason I suggested that you use View Source is that it will tell you
exactly what the HTML content of the message is supposed to contain, whether
it's pictures, text, or something else.

For most, it just says

"<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html;
charset=iso-8859-1"></HEAD><BODY></BODY></HTML>"

That means that what you received apparently is indeed a message with a
blank body.

As I have received several from many different sources, including the e-mails
notifying my that a post has been made to this thread, something must be
clearing the messages before they get to Outlook. But what? I have some
exploring to do.

If your mail server allows you to read the mail with a browser interface,
that would be a good place to start.

Troy,

You are checking the box that relates to pictures getting downloaded (and
asking for more spam), but you need to check the setting for HTML display.

Go to Tools > Options > Email Options button, then uncheck "Read all
standard mail in plain text." That should show you the message body, but
from your example, it could still be blank, since there is nothing in
between the <BODY></BODY> tags.

Hi Sue. I am actualy having the same problem as Troy did. I am using
Outlook 2003 and the header of my HTML messages appear but nothing appears in
the body. I have enabled HTML messages in my options, but I am still not
able to read the body of my messages. I do not know how to get to the "View
Source" to determine of there is actually something in the body. Please help.

Open the message, right click the body, select "View Source". Are you using
an Antivirus product? AVG Antivirus is known to cause similar problems.
