Why can't my XP Machine find my workgroup?

I have several computers on a small network, most running Windows XP Home Edition. All can share files, etc. except for one. That one gives me a message saying that "xxxxgroup is not accessible, you might not have permission to this network resource. Contact the adminstrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." What server? I am just using a Workgroup, I don't have a central server or domains set up. I tried to run the Networking Wizard, that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas out there? It can't even see the other computers, even if I type in a network path.

I get the same message under the following circumstances and need help, please, also.

I am running Windows XP Professional on two machines, which are wired to an ethernet hub. I've also two networked printers connected to this hub.

My problem is when I am on my "upstairs" machine and open Windows Explorer- My Network Places - Entire Network - Microsoft Windows Network - MSHome, I see both machines, my "upstairs" machine and my "downstairs machine."

If I click on the downstairs machine in the " directory tree," I see the file folders which I have marked, when at the downstairs machine, "shared." So, it would appear the hardware connection is O.K. When I am at the downstairs machine, I can access files on the upstairs machine without problems. I can print to either printer from either machine.

However, when I try to access one of the file folders on the downstairs machine from the upstairs machine, for example folder, "YYYY," I get the following message,

"\\Machine_Name\\YYYY is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

Please, any ideas or suggestions? The downstairs machine is a 1 Giga Hertz 3 year old Pentium machine with 256 Meg of Ram. The upstairs machine is a 2GHz with 1G of ram.

Thanks,

David

I have a similar problem. Jeez, you'd think Microsoft might be able to get this one sorted out.

I have a Netgear FM114P Wireless Firewall/Printer Server.
I also have two machines running Windows XP Professional and a Notebook running Windows XP Home Edition and accessing the Internet through the wireless prt of the router. All three machine can access the Internet.

I have been through the networking Wizard God knows how manytimes and still the machine will NOT communicate with each other.

The will see each other IF I use the IP address i.e. \\192.16.8.03 BUT they will not get access to each other, despite the fact that all three machine have access rights so that anyone can get in and do anything.

If I could just get my Notebook to be able to print my God gow happy would I be. I've been trying to get this to work since June!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same problem. All other PCs in my home
network are communicating fine and sharing files, but the
newly installed XP Professional system gets the 'not
accessible message.

AHHH!!! I have had this exact same problem! I haven't been able to figure out what it is. If someone has ANY (even infintisimal) idea of what the solution to this could be, please offer it. I won't go into details, for there are several other responses that have and it would be quite unnecessary. I have tried almost everything I can think of. (I've done so many things so many times that I forget what I've done or what I have thought about trying.) Microsoft needs to take a long look at this problem. I have seen several posts with similiar dilemmas. Ug, we pay a significant price for Windows, and Microsoft doesn't come up with a solution to these types of problems. Hopefully, someone else can
Thanks
