KMS - Brett Anderson

I've been trying to post a question for days and it never shows up. Is this
group moderated?

Brett Anderson

Hi Brett,
it's not moderated - anything you post should show up. I see your post
fine - are you seeing it? More importantly what's your question?

Also make sure you're connecting direct to msnews.microsoft.com and not
going through your ISPs newsserver

Thanks Jon,

I saw this post as soon as I placed it, but couldn't see my original
question post, which I posted twice.

Yes, I'm connecting direct.to msnews.

As it happens, my question has now appeared. Weird. Please check it out
under subject "Can't find server" from KMS - Brett Anderson

Thanks so much.

Hi Brett,

If you want an aswer, don't tell people where to look for your question. Ask
it. Newsreaders are often set up to hide read messages, and people are lazy.

Big things are made up
of lots of little things.

I just searched this news group and I can't find your original post.
I found one you had replied to, but not an original.

Hence my original question in this thread?

OK, while I'm visible, I'll ask it right here. Hopefully one of you guys can
point a lost soul in the right direction.

I'm running Win XP Pro, IIS 5.0 and FPSE2000 (that comes with XP/IIS). Oh,
and FrontPage 2000 upgrade from FP98 full version.

When I open FP, I get "cannot find server at <computername>. Please check
to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are
set correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct, the web server
may be temporarily out of service"

I do NOT get a port 80 server error (which I see lots of complaints on,
here), and the error specifically names the computer name, from Networking,
rather than any web that is set up. Not sure if that means anything or not.

I've tried opening "localhost" in a web browser and it opens up two separate
help screens, one is IIS help and the other says "Your web service is now
running. You do not currently have a default web page established......"

My FP webs are located in Inetpub/wwwroot.

If I click past the error when opening FP, I can open the web via file/open,
but it's like the server extensions are not working.

My FP web has a FPSE based shopping cart. It doesn't work, which implies
that the server extensions are not working, but checking them in the MMC
shows them to be in good order and operational.

Machine is new, IBM R40 with 2.4 P4, 256 RAM and OEM XP Pro. I've moved
from an older computer with a full version of Win2K Pro, to this OEM Win XP
Pro and have not been able to get this working properly yet.

I'm lost. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wow!

Lesson #1 in how to kill a thread.........

;-)

Still desperate for any assistance. Will trade BMW tech help for FP tech
help! ;-)

there was a utility at www.jimcoaddins.com that had something to do with
"broken folders". you may want to look into it.

as for the cant post thing: I couldn't get to the adobestudio post log-in
screens with internet explorer. I actually had to use a different browser
to get in!
