To create space in my Outlook inbox, i exported a folder to 'My documents' as
a .pst file.
When i now attempt to open this exported folder, it won't open under any of
the options given.

All advice welcome. Thank you.

You haven't told us anything yet. Provide:
1. Outlook version
2. Steps used to export
3. Why you can't open this file and what happens when you try
4. Error messages

In general, exporting is a very poor way to transfer Outlook data.

In addition to what Russ said, what program are you using to try to open it?

OHHHHHH!!! Would you provide a link to the better way? THANKS!!

Just make a copy of the PST file and open it in the other installation of
Outlook.

Why would you export? The proper method is: File>New>Outlook Data File.
Browse to where the PST should go (or accept the default), specify a PST
name (or accept the default) and click OK. MOve, drag-and-drop items from
your main PST to the new one. Compact the old one. All done.

File>Open>Outlook Data File is the correct way. If you get an error
message, post its contents. Include, also, your Outlook version.
