Why can't I group contacts into specific groups to expedite emails?

The contacts folder sometimes shifts to some other type of folder,
which interferes with using contacts. To correct this, start Windows
Mail, then click on Tools, then Windows Contacts, then right click
in the empty space under the right end of the contacts toolbar, then
click on Customize This Folder, then the triangle to the right of the
folder type, then Contacts, then Apply, then OK. The toolbar in
the contacts window should then include New Contact Group.

I am having a problem with group folders. I had contacts on my computer as
group folders - Then my computer crashed, I was able to save the groups on
aCD, but when I go to re-install them, I get a message that says :Contact
group must be opened within the wondows contact folder. To use this conact
group, move or copy this file to the contacts foder". Don't know what to do
- Do you have any suggestions, as I don't understand it. When I open the
contact folder in Windows Mail, there is nothing for me to say add a group
folder. Can you help. Thanks.

I am not sure you understood my problem. I copied my group contact folders
on a CD before I had to totally restore my computer, but I cannot put them
back into my contacts list as groups now that I have restored the computer.
I was able to put back individual e-mail addresses that I saved on CD's into
my contact list on Windows Mail - but the group contact folders I have saved
on CD just won't copy. It says I have to copy it within the Windows Contact
folder, but I am not sure what they are talking about and what I do. Can you
help?

I am not clear on what method you used to copy "group contact folders",
but the only way that Groups information would be retained is to copy the
entire folder using the Windows Explorer file manager:
C:\Users\username\Contacts
