I have been all the way through the web sites that you gave me, but they all
seem to be to do with sharing a computer, but I am not sharing, this is the
only one that is on the connection for the internet.

You're right about that. The MTU mismatch is most commonly caused by either
PPPoE, or ICS, so that's the focus of the articles. But MTU problems can be
caused solely by the route between your computer and the servers in question
too.
Your symptoms - lack of access to specific websites, with stated no web site
blocking (though the Hosts file would be good to check too), are symptomatic of
an MTU problem. The AllenSmith and Annoyances articles describe how to check
out the problem.
A distant possibility would be corruption in the LSP / Winsock subsystem.

If XP RTM or Service Pack 1:
1. Backup and delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
2. Reboot.
3. Open the network connections folder, right click your network connection, and
click Properties.
4. Click Install | Protocol | Add.
5. Click "Have Disk...", type "\windows\inf" in the box, and click OK.
6. Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", then click OK.
7. Reboot.
If XP SP2:
1. Start - Run - "cmd".
2. Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" into the command window.
