When using Word 2000, or Word 2002, if I have to use the
apostrafie it comes out correctly on the first use but if
I go to the next line in the document and use it again it
comes out upside down ???.
any idea ?, or is that just Microsoft .

Tools > autocorrect > autoformat as you type > uncheck 'smart quotes' (and
you'll probably want to uncheck most of the rest also).

Not sure about 'upside down' but perhaps you're referring to Word's
replacement of straight quotes with what they call smart quotes. This has
always worked correctly for me, but you can switch it off and see if that
fixes your problem: Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoFormat as you Type.
