i just installed access 2003 to my computer for class. my assignment is
instructing me to click tables and it's unavailable, I can't. i'm already
frustrated with the class why are major objects not working?

Do you have an mdb file or an mde file? Did you "active" Access after you
installed it? If you had Office installed already, your 15 day (IIRC) trial
may have expired immediately based on the date that Office was installed. If
Access isn't activated, it will become "read only". I don't know the extent
of the limitations imposed when it switches to that mode.

I don't know what ither of those files are. I don't know if I "active"
Access, all I know is it said installed succesfully. No, I didn't have a
trial, I just purchased it from office max. Should I uninstall it and install
it again?

Have you created a database?

File Menu; New then selct Blank Database and ente a file name.

I understand you didn't have a trial version. However, the Office 2003
programs will "time out" after 15 days if you don't "activate" them,
essentially giving you a 15 day trial period. Open Access and go to
Help|Activate Product. It will either come back with a dialog box that says
you've already activated or it will walk you through the activation process.
The process can be done over the Internet if you have an Internet connection
or you can phone Microsoft. The phone number will be given in the walk
through. If you already had Office installed, Access may have seen this
install date and taken its 15 days from that instead of from the install
date of Access itself and so went immediately into read only mode.

Also, for trouble shooting purposes, as Terry asked, can you create a new,
blank database file? If the above is the problem, then you probably can't.
