I haven't changed anything, did MS change something in a WindowsXP
download?

Ummmmmmm I wonder if I can google for this info?

Blue files are compressed. One likely trigger for this is running Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) with the option selected to Compress Old Files.

Windows compresses files and folders (NTFS partition) that are not accessed
very often, explorer shows these files/folders in blue.

Compression can be turned on or off on a folder by folder basis.
Just select a folder, right click and select Properties, General Tab,
Advanced Button.
In the Advanced Attributes window you will find the Compress options near
the bottom.
Check or Un-check the Compress contents option.

Also when in Explorer select: Tools, Folder Options, View, Advanced settings
to see options related to colors.

Thanks to all who responded. Yes, indeed, I did a Disk Cleanup the
other day....1st time ever. I don't mind the blue files, might help me
to go thru and delete most of them anyhoo.

Just because the files were selected for compression does not mean they are not needed at all, and wholesale deletion will almost certainly cause problems. Best to ignore them.

Nah, the files that I saw were ones which I should have deleteted years
ago. Some are duplicates......but as usual, I probably won't get around
to doing it anyhoo.

thanx AnnE
