Why are numbers stored as text in my TOAD created Excel output?

I am saving my TOAD query results in Excel spreadsheet format. However, when
I open the Excel file, all the numberic values are being stored as text. Is
there a setting in Excel I need to change or is this originating from TOAD
itself?

more than likely TOAD is doing it. It is not that uncommon for imported data
to end up as text. some computer system sore numbers as text. I would
investigate your sorce problem from that end. by default excel, ids numbers
as numbers and text as text.
what to do.
enter a one in a cell off the the side. copy it.
then high light your numbers as text and paste special - multiply.

this should convert the numbers as text to numbers.
