Why are my Word documents changing to Read-Only?

I'm finding that more and more of the Word documents I'm working on have
suddenly made themselves Read-Only. Never used to do this; has been
happening off and on over the past few weeks. I can't determine a reason why
this would be happening; I have no need for read-only files. It's not every
file, I cannot detect a pattern. I have to save differently-named copies to
get back to a non-Read-Only state. (Note: all my files are out on a file
server, not local. But that has been constant for years, not just recent,
when this thing has been happening.) Thank you!!
 
You'll need to talk to whoever's in charge of your server and ask what's
changed at their end. It's not something that Word does.
