Hi,

My PC, homebuilt with ASUS A7N8X V2.0 Deluxe MB, has two builtin
network ports. One is 3Com 3C920B-EMB and the other is NVIDIA
nForce MCP. Is therea reason for having different types and does it
affect usage?

No problems, just curious.

Thanks,
Gary

My guess is that it would be compatible with different operating
systems. Perhaps some OSes may not have a driver for one type but
would for the other.

not really, just the same old "put the chips on the board
that are needed to get the job done" in addition to the
integral southbridge support.

and does it
affect usage?

There might be minor performance differences in different
situations but they're not worth any time to consider, just
disable one if you won't need both of them.
